“Find Yourself” … or not

“Bali is a place where you can find yourself.” Have you ever heard this statement before? I know I have because I’ve actually thought this. This is a misrepresentation and stereotype of Bali as it more opinion based than proven. Many say this because of how strongly meditation and yoga are practiced in Bali, and how these practices are supposed to have a lot of benefits. It may also be because the way Bali is projected throughout social media. If you were to log onto Instagram and simply search “Bali, Indonesia,” you will more than likely find majority of the pictures of people posing on the beaches, pools, and throughout the tropical scenery.

Here.. let me show you:

Now, this is not to say that if one travels to Bali they will not be able to “find themselves” because they may. BUT, that is not the case for everyone. You should not pack a bag and hop on the next flight to Bali if you want to become a better and changed person.

One should not get stuck on this fantasy idea of finding themselves if they were to go to Bali, because you may be disappointed if this does not go as planned. Instead, travelers should focus on learning more about the culture here. Once they learn about the Balinese culture, that may open up some doors for them to learn tips to grow individually and spiritually.
